The normally quiet Kalapana comes alive on Wednesday evenings for what is commonly known as "Uncles".
It's a great place to relax and enjoy good food in a farmers market type environment. Live bands and friendly people make this a must-see experience.
You'll find food vendors, crafters, produce and gifts at the market, but there is so much more!
Come early for the food and stay for the music and dancing.
Because of the flow the road to Uncles has been closed a few times in the past month. Best to check before you head out.
Head south on Hwy 130 (Keaau-Pahōa Road) toward Pahōa village.
After passing Pahōa, continue on Hwy 130 and drive about 10 miles. You will see a left hand exit with large green sign that says Kaimu. Take a left and go towards ocean. At the stop sign there is a T-intersection, turn right and continue until you see parking for the market. It's only about 1/4 mile from T intersection.
There will be plenty cars parked along the road and people walking so be careful. There a big parking lot on the lava field near the market for about $3. Better than parking along the road.
