Coconut Island

Coconut Island

To the right of Liliʻuokalani Park and Gardens and behind the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel is one of the island's best secrets.  Coconut Island (Mohu Ola) has a small swimming beach, pavillions, picnic tables, pavillion, restrooms and outdoor showers.
The views of Hilo and the slopes of Mauna Kea are magnificent!  Sunset on a clear night will take your breath away!
If you are feeling adventurous on to the right side of the island there is an old structure that local young people seem to have lot of fun jumping off of.

From the Banyan Drive entrace to Liliʻuokalani Park and Gardens take a right to the parking lot for Coconut Island.  You will then need to walk over the white footbridge.

Look for the tsunami markers on the palm trees to your left as you enter the park.  You will be amazed!

There is local lore that says if you swim around the island thee times you will be cured of any illness. I always thought that this may not be wise if you are ill!

Treat yourself to a Paleta after exploring Coconut Island.  What's a paleta? It's a delicious fruit pop made with local fruits!  Get yours for only $2.00 at Alii Ice Company on Banyan Drive.  Look for the "dragon"
